Year 5 Egyptian Homework

In Year 5, the children were given holiday homework based on our topic for the first summer half term – The Ancient Egyptians. I am totally amazed to see how much time, effort and thought the children have put into their projects! Mr Emmet and I are blown away with the children’s marvellous creations! It is great to have children engaging with their homework at this level! They are showing a great engagement and enthusiasm for their learning and also using their creations to support their learning within the classroom. It is wonderful to hear and see the children getting excited when planning their projects and sharing their ideas with the class. I also think that it’s great to have so many parents engaging with their children’s enthusiasm and enjoyment when working with their children to complete their mind blowing creations! Thank you for your support and well done to everyone in 5.1, who have completed their Egyptian masterpieces. All of the children’s creations are on display and any parents are more than welcome to come and see the pieces of work showcased in our classroom! A special well done to Ellis, Poppy, Alexis, Lillie, Robin, Priyanka, Kasey, Cameron, Imogen and Kyle for your pieces of homework which are shown on the school website!

Thank you! Keep up the amazing work! Miss Leggett and Mr Emmett

Year 5 BLP afternoon – ‘Can you make a bag?’

First of all, we had to ask questioned for our first task to show our curiosity about what was going on and to show that we could ask appropriate questions. Then we had to sort our questions into level of importance and could only ask the teacher 3 questions, to collect information.

Our second task was to collaborate to agree on our roles within our group; Lead Learner, Collector, Tester and Presenter.

Whilst constructing our bags, we used our collaboration muscle to take turns, share ideas, be patient with others, know what needs to be done and consider our team’s progress. Also, we used our perseverance muscle to create a clear end goal – a bag.

When our bag was tested, we collaborated to check our team’s progress with the end goal. Our bag was then tested and we used our perseverance muscle by suggesting improvements and then we collaborated again to identify obstacles and perseverance to understand that it is worth putting the effort in.

Class 5-1’s Science experiment

Here is our whole class demonstration. During this part of the lesson, we were focusing on the Moon’s surface and wondered why people think that the Moon in made out of cheese (because of the holes). We used flour and chocolate powder to create the surface of the moon and then we dropped pebbles to create craters. This showed us that the Moon is pitted with craters, caused by meteors hitting the surface.
