Grinton Residential and Meeting Rishi Sunak November 2021

A group of Year 6 pupils were given the opportunity to go to Grinton YHA and stay for two nights. We took part in a variety of activities and got to learn about the Yorkshire Dales and the Moorland and animals. We did science experiments out in the moorland and learned about how different types of soil and moss are used to alleviate flooding. On the Friday we had the opportunity to see/meet Rishi Sunak, who was visiting the Generation Green Project and the YHA to look at the impact of the residentials and how these have a positive influence on our children and their understanding of the environments and how to look after and treasure our countryside. Hopefully we impressed him with our experiences of going across the moor and making s’mores around a fire. Everyone complemented the children on their attitudes throughout the whole visit and how they were a credit to the school and their parents! We will get a copy of the press photos at some point but until then please enjoy some of our photos.

A big thank you to Catherine from the Yorkshire Parks Authority for organising all the activities, Michael who is a ranger of the Yorkshire Parks and Sarah and Bob who accompanied us on the adventures over the two days. Generation Green project is so important and we hope it continues so more children can experience being outside in our amazing landscape.
