Attendance Policy

Attendance

Having excellent attendance and punctuality will not only enable your child to achieve their full potential at Wibsey Primary School, but it will also equip them with vital skills for their adult life. Regular attendance is incredibly important, pupils who attend regularly will achieve better academically and will enjoy better relationships with staff and peers.

At Wibsey Primary School we expect every pupil to achieve a minimum of 97% attendance. This is equivalent to 6 days lost within the academic year. We have an Inclusion Team to support the parents/carers of children whose attendance falls below 97%.

Mrs A Wright will visit the homes of children who are absent from school and where school have not been updated. This is part of our safeguarding procedure. Parents/carers must contact school before 9.30am on the first day of their child’s absence and keep school updated should the absence continue. Unauthorised absences may result in the issue of a Penalty Notice.

If you are having difficulties regarding your child’s attendance please contact our Attendance Officer – Mrs Cawood or our Inclusion Manager – Mrs A Wright on 01274 678016. Poor attendance could result in a referral to Bradford Council’s Education Social Work Service, which may result in legal action.

Classes who achieve 100% attendance and above 97% each week will be rewarded. The classes with the best attendance for each half term will have a non-uniform day on the last Friday. We ask that parents/carers work with us and support their child in achieving excellent attendance.

Punctuality

It is important your child/ren’s day gets off to a good start, so don’t forget teaching and learning begins at 8.55am and:

Arriving late causes unnecessary disruption for your child/ren, the class and for staff
Arriving late can result in your child being unsettled instead of being ready to learn
Our School Inclusion Team will have a meeting with parent/carers of children who are persistently late to school to discuss punctuality
Persistent lateness may result in a referral to Bradford Council’s Education Social Work Service
If you have difficulties with getting your child to our school on time, please contact Mrs A Wright/Mrs Cawood.

Your co-operation with supporting us with attendance and punctuality expectations would be very much appreciated. If you would like to discuss any of these matters, please do not hesitate to contact us.
