Maths Learning Continuum
Learning Continuum
At Wibsey Primary School, we follow an all inclusive learning continuum style of teaching. This style of teaching starts with a pre-skills assessment taking place prior to every unit of work, which assesses specific National Curriculum strands in relation to the maths curriculum objectives from years 1 to the specific year group your child is in. From this, children are grouped depending on where their current knowledge lies on the continuum. Following this, children receive differentiated inputs to appropriately challenge and support their learning. This provides children with personalised learning to fill the gaps of knowledge, address misconceptions and deepen children’s understanding by reasoning and problem solving at a level appropriate to each child. Here is an example of the year 5 pre-skills assessment which, as part of the place value strand of the curriculum, specifically focusses on the skill to ‘read and write numbers’
